Students can use the "Call Me" feature above to leave a voicemail. So questions can be addressed the next day in class.

Welcome to my Caesar Rodney High School Physical Science & Chemistry homepage. This area is for students, parents, and peers, so comments in any input areas (forum, e-mail forms, polls, etc.) should maintain the same respect and dignity that you would show in person.

What's this web site for?

This web site is intended to make life a little easier on both students and myself.

Students will be able to use this site to stay up-to-date in class.
(1) Any instructor-designed PowerPoint presentations shown in class will be available for download.
(2) Homework/Class work assignments will be posted on the with due dates (if you miss class and have Internet access available to you outside of school please respect the original due dates).
(3) Test dates will be posted with at least a week's notice.
(4) Practice problems will be noted, some of my own creation, some from the book or other resources, and some that randomly generate, any of which may show up on a test.

For me, all of my lectures will be in one place. I also will be able to receive feedback and input to make things run more smoothly in the classroom.

How do I use this web site?

The homepage will likely not change.

The "meat" of the web site is controlled by the main menu. Here is a little run down on what you'll find in each tab.

The "Home" tab will bring you back to this page.

The "Science Courses" tab has a submenu, "Chemistry" and "Physical Science." Click on one of these submenu tabs to go to your course's blog. These blogs will help keep you up-to-date even when you're absent.

The "Practice Problems " tab has the practice problem generators created by Professor George Wiger of California State University Dominguez Hills. Several of your tests may incorporate these practice problem generators so you should become very familar with them.

The "Notes" tab will contain a list of notes for both classes as they are created. There is no guarantee that the notes will be up prior to covering them in class so make sure that you pay attention during class. And, remember notes in your notebook don't have to be verbatim to those in the PowerPoint presentations nor should they.

The "Labs" tab has a submenu, "In-Class Labs " and "Virtual Labs." Clicking "In-Class Labs" will take you to a list of labs done in class. Clicking on "Virtual Labs" will take you to a java-driven lab bench where labs can be selected from a drop-down list under "File - Load Homework."

The "Tests" tab will contain a list of the online tests that have been completed or will be completed. If tests are shown that have not been assigned you not not allowed to do them early. They must be performed under the guidance of your instructor or in make-up test cases the proctorship of a parent or guardian.

The "Tools" tab has a submenu, "ChemAxon: Marvin " and "Create a Virtual Lab." Clicking "ChemAxon: Marvin" will take you to a powerful molecular modeling application where you can create compounds, have them named for you, and see them three-dimensionally. Clicking on "Create a Virtual Lab" will take you to page where you can download a program that allows you to create your own labs and chemicals for the Virtual Lab. It is my desire that students create a virtual lab by the end of the year that can be used in the future.

The "Wiki" tab is where student groups responsible for formal lab write-ups will produce them. They will be visible for all and though they may use a lab procedure from a textbook, or other resource, should be the original work of the students documenting the exact procedure they followed including all subsititutions and mistakes.

The "STEM" tab is a blog that was created during the summer. It chronicles the experience I had at the University of Delaware this summer working on a Nature InSpired Engineering Research Experience for Teachers (NISE-RET) sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). It will be updated throughout the 2009-2010 school year as data is collected on my students.

And now, if you have not already download the latest version of Adobe/Macromedia Flash Player version 9 and make my web pages happy!
