The de Broglie Wave Equation Word Problems

The de Broglie equation relates the wavelength of a particle to its velocity and mass. It is particularly important in understanding the properties of subatomic particles. This page will present you with a variety of questions demonstrating the application of the de Broglie relationship. When you press "New Problem" a question will appear in the to the right of the button. Determine the value of the answer, enter it in the answer cell and press "Check Answer". Results will appear in the table and running totals are maintained. All wavelengths must be in meters. You will need to have available the mass of the subatomic particles (in kg) as will as the speed of light in m/sec.

  • Numbers in scientific notation must be entered using "e". Thus 2×102 is entered as 2e2.
  • Pressing the "Show Answer" will cause the solution to appear and you will no longer be able to submit an answer for that problem.
